Newton Derby opened its new state of the art 80,000sq ft factory in April 2008 which it shares with it’s sister company, the transformer manufacturer, Winder Electrical. The facility has been developed to provide a flexible manufacturing base to produce specialist rotating machines. Housed under one roof, to give optimum workflow design, the factory encompasses the following equipment:

Newton Derby has a range of coil winding machines to cover the manufacture of one off, manually produced prototypes to CNC controlled machines for the automatic production of coil festoons for higher volume products. The coils can range in size to cater for machines from 50mm diameter to 2m.
Newton Derby invested in a new, two plane dynamic balancing machine which can balance rotors up to 750kg with an accuracy of 15gmm, to ensure smooth operation of finished machines.
Newton Derby has recently upgraded the standard VPI to a single component, Class H epoxy resin. In addition, windings are coated with an anti-tracking varnish to seal the endwinding against moisture ingress and provide further protection with a fungicide.
The importance of in-process and final testing is paramount to ensuring reliable operation in service. Newton Derby have invested in state of the art test equipment to confirm windings meet rigorous quality standards at each stage of manufacture.
